This was originally reported by Gematsu who picked up on the news during a livestream event. It was also revealed that Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII main programmer Haoki Hamaguchi will be the one leading the development on the Final Fantasy VII Remake, but at this point in time a release date has yet to be confirmed.
According to Hamaguchi, “I’ve taken charge on the development side for Final Fantasy VII Remake. As for the whole story, (it’s a sensitive topic, but) until now, development was moving forward with external cooperation, but the company has decided to shift to an internal setup, including mass production and quality, because we want to control everything, including quality, on a stable schedule. (I won’t be leaving Mobius Final Fantasy.)”
So far the Final Fantasy VII Remake is set for a release on the Sony PS4 console. We’re not sure if there are plans to eventually bring it to other consoles, but we guess we’ll have to wait for its release first whenever that happens.
