The company has recently announced (via Engadget) that they have issued a recall for their trucks over safety concerns due to a potentially dangerous software error. This recall will affect 1.02 million trucks from 2013 to 2016 and it involves the Ram 1500 and 2500 trucks, and the 2014 to 2016 Ram 3500 pickup trucks.
The recall will also affect non-US countries such as in Canada, Mexico, and other countries outside of North America. As much as we would have liked to say that this error was detected before any accidents happen, that is unfortunately not the case as Fiat Chrysler has admitted that they are aware of at least one fatality, two injuries, and two accidents that may be related to its software problems.
According to the company, “The error code associated with the warning may temporarily disable side air bag and seat belt pretensioner deployment for that ignition cycle, which would then be unavailable in the event of a vehicle rollover.” If you do own any of the models mentioned above, you’ll want to get in touch with Fiat Chrysler ASAP.
