Unfortunately the same cannot be said for robots, but at the same time we guess it does make them more efficient, and this is something that the Dubai Police are aiming for come 2030 where they are hoping to have a 25% robotic police force by then. Dubai Police are expected to introduce a fleet of robots to its ranks on the 24th of May which are designed by Spanish company PAL Robotics.
Dubbed the REEM robot, this robot stands about 5 feet 6 inches tall and looks like what you see in the image above. While the robot won’t be going about solving crimes, it seems that it will act more as a hub for users to report crimes, at least based on a prototype from last year where a touchscreen interface will let users report crimes, make reports, pay fines for traffic violations, and so on. However there are plans to eventually turn these robots into full-fledged police officers.
Like we said robots are more efficient as they don’t need rest or breaks or sleep and can work around the clock. However one could argue that there are certain qualities about humans that robots will never be able to emulate, some of which does help with being a police officer, but we guess we’ll just have to wait and see how this turns out.
