BMW has unveiled its new concept zero-emission motorcycle at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2017. The new concept is inspired by BMW’s Motorrad Vision Next 100 and is called the BMW Motorrad Concept Link. The company says that the concept combines digital connectivity with the demands of urban mobility on two wheels.
The BMW Motorrad Concept Link has a unique design language. It’s not based on today’s concepts, it actually strives to meet the basic functionality and digital needs of users.
Since it’s a zero-emissions concept, it’s all-electric. The Motorrad Concept Link has flat energy packs in the underfloor and compact drive on the rear wheel. This enabled BMW to create a distinctive design that defines the segment.
BMW has focused on meeting the requirements of urban mobility. E-drive provides a high level of riding pleasure with fast acceleration and easy handling. It even has a reverse gear for easy maneuvering.
It’s going to be smart as well. The BMW Motorrad Concept Link keeps the rider connected at all times, it knows what’s in the rider’s calendar and can, therefore, plan the fastest route or the most scenic route. It can even select the most suitable music for that ride if required.
It doesn’t feature a classic instrument cluster. All of the relevant information about speed, navigation, and battery is projected on the windshield directly in the rider’s field of vision. Secondary information is displayed on the touch-sensitive surface panel positioned below the handlebars.
Since it’s just a concept, it remains to be seen what form the Motorrad Concept Link takes if BMW ever decides to sell an actual motorcycle based on this concept.
