If a new report out of Taiwan is taken at face value, it appears that ASUS has decided to release fewer conventional consumer desktop computers going forward. The company will reportedly focus more on its enterprise sector in China and Taiwan instead, aside from focusing on all-in-one PC and high-end Republic of Gamers branded machines. The decision is said to stem from the fact that the worldwide PC market hasn’t exactly been growing over the past few years.
Global PC shipments have been in a state of constant decline over the past few years. Compared to 360 million units being shipped in 2011, PC manufacturers were only able to ship 260 million units in 2016. Moreover, desktop PC shipments have been struggling to stay over 100 million units per year.
This means that it’s getting harder and harder to turn a profit in a market that’s steadily declining and shows no signs of rebounding. Small shipment growths are only being seen in the gaming and enterprise segments and that’s what ASUS is reportedly going to focus more on now.
The report from Digitimes claims that due to the weak performance of PC products, ASUS will now be shifting its focus on developing all-in-one PC and mid-range to high-end gaming and enterprise machines.
ASUS hasn’t confirmed its plans for the future officially at this point in time.
