Word on the street has it that Apple has an Amazon Echo/Google Home competitor in the works that could very well be unveiled at WWDC 2017 next month. Whether or not that is true remains to be seen, but in a report from Mark Gurman over at Bloomberg, it seems that this device has been in testing for the past few months.
According to the report, Apple employees have reportedly been testing the Siri device in their homes for the past several months, indicating that things are progressing rather nicely and that we could be close to seeing it launch. However the report from Bloomberg can’t confirm if this device will have a screen similar to the recently launched Amazon Echo Show.
However Apple’s SVP of Marketing Phil Schiller recently mentioned that there are benefits to having a screen on a voice-activated device, so maybe it is possible that it could end up sporting a display, or maybe Schiller could simply be talking about a future model, or maybe just speaking generally.
In any case we guess we’ll have to wait and find out, but with Amazon, Google, and even Microsoft getting into the smart speaker game (with the launch of the Harman Kardon Invoke), what would be surprising is if Apple did not have an answer.
