Amazon Video App For Apple TV May Arrive This Summer

Amazon’s online video streaming service is a serious player in its own right. It has a massive library of licensed content as well as a growing catalog of great original TV shows and movies. It’s right up there with the best of them. However, Apple TV owners have been unable to stream content from Amazon Video as no official app is available. If a new report is believed, the official Amazon Video app for Apple TV might arrive this summer.

Re/code reports that Amazon and Apple have reached an agreement which is going to put the former’s video streaming app on the latter’s set-top box. It’s expected that the app is going to be released for the Apple TV in the third quarter of this year.

The only way users could stream content from Amazon Video to Apple TV was through AirPlay. This involved connecting another Apple device like a Mac or iPhone and then beaming content from that device over local Wi-Fi to the TV. It wasn’t exactly seamless.

There are no details available about what has happened behind the scenes that Amazon and Apple have reached this agreement. Both have rival video businesses and yet if this happens, they will have figured out a way to move forward without getting in each other’s way.

It’s going to be a win-win for users, though, as they will be able to watch content from their preferred streaming service on their preferred home entertainment box.
