It was in September last year when YouTube Go was announced. At that time, the service called on users to register so that they could be notified when the service went live. YouTube Go has now been launched, albeit in beta. The service has been launched after the YouTube Go app was leaked online and the unofficial APK started making the rounds. Those who have been waiting for this service to arrive will now be delighted that they can finally start using it.
The first country to officially receive support for YouTube Go Beta is India. The app has been designed from the group up to cater to users who have little data bandwidth and are still limited to 2G and 3G speeds.
YouTube Go will enable users to share videos with nearby friends over Bluetooth so that they don’t use any data for this purpose. It also provides video recommendations on the home screen based on what’s trending and popular around the user.
Moreover, video previews load first so that the user has an idea of what they’re going to see. This will enable them to decide whether or not they want to use precious mobile data to view that video. They can also choose the resolution and know the file size before they download a video for offline viewing.
Users in India can now download YouTube Go Beta if they want to consume all of the content that it offers while being conscious of their mobile data usage. It hasn’t been confirmed as yet if and when YouTube Go will be rolled out in other markets as well.
