In an interview with CNET, Xiaomi’s senior vice president Wang Xiang revealed that the company was still looking to break into the US market, and that they are looking at that happening in the next 2 years or so. Wang doesn’t have a specific timeframe in mind, but he estimates that 2 years should do the trick.
He was quoted as saying, “We don’t have a fixed timeline, but probably two years, if not sooner. It’s ambitious but we want to get into these markets as soon as possible.” He added that the reason they’re taking their time is because they want to make sure they get things right off the bat.
“We don’t want to make a random decision. Oh say, here’s the Mi 6, let’s try the US market, if it doesn’t work let’s just leave. No, we want to be well-prepared and make a boom in those markets.” Earlier Wang was similarly interviewed by Engadget where he also suggested that the reason Xiaomi has yet to break into the US is due to their resources being stretched too thin.
