Later this year we will finally be treated to Star Wars: Episode VIII, also known as The Last Jedi. This is great news since we’re sure that many are curious about the story following the ending in The Force Awakens. However it also means that we’re just one more movie away from the latest trilogy coming to a close.
In a post on the Star Wars website, the folks at Disney and Lucasfilm have confirmed when the trilogy will be coming to an end, and that is on the 24th of May, 2019 which is pretty much two years away. It is an interesting choice to launch it in May since so far all the recent Star Wars movies have been released in December, but presumably they are looking to create a summer blockbuster movie this time round. Given that it will be the last Star Wars movie in this particular trilogy, we suppose it makes sense.
Star Wars: Episode IX will be directed by Colin Trevorrow and at the moment it is unclear as to who will be cast in it, especially since we’re not sure what will happen in The Last Jedi. However it has been confirmed that Carrie Fisher will not be making an appearance in the movie. Fisher passed away last year and in comments made by her brother, it was suggested that she could still appear in the movie using older footage.
However Lucasfilm has since denied that and stated that The Last Jedi is the last Star Wars movie that will be featuring Fisher. In any case now that we have the official dates, it’s time to mark your calendars and start the countdown.
