So if you have ever visited porn websites before, you might have realized that for some reason, there are social media sharing buttons on them. We’re not sure who would actually share porn on their Facebook or Twitter pages, but it’s still there, and for April Fool’s Pornhub pulled off one of the more heart attack-inducing pranks to date.
As you can see in the screenshot above, whenever someone clicked on a Pornhub video on April Fool’s would be greeted by the message above, thanking them for sharing their videos on their social media pages. Safe to say that if you did not know that this was a prank, you might have panicked a little, but clicking on the “Thanks Pornhub!” or “WTF, reverse this now!” button loads another message informing users that this is a prank.
In fact this prank also serves as a PSA for Pornhub to let their visitors know that they are using a HTTPS connection which is encrypted and more secure. While webmasters are more than free to keep using HTTP, Google has made it so that websites with HTTPS will rank higher than those without. Chrome will also start to mark HTTP websites as “not secure”, so yay for Pornhub, we guess?
