NASA Will Stream From Space In 4K For The First Time Ever On April 26th

If you’re not used to watching 4K content the sheer quality can take you by surprise. 4K televisions and monitors are getting cheaper and content is becoming easier to find. If you happen to own a display that’s capable of 4K resolution, you might want to tune in on April 26th because that’s when NASA is going to join forces with Amazon to stream live in 4K from space.

NASA and Amazon Web Services will broadcast the first live stream in 4K from outer space on April 26th. The live stream will be available at 10:30 AM PDT. It’s part of a show from the annual NAB convention for broadcasters.

Don’t worry if you’re unable to catch the stream live. The recording will be made available later directly from NASA’s website in 4K and lower resolutions. The stream is going to feature a conversation between NASA’s Dr. Peggy Whitson onboard the International Space Station and an AWS executive at the convention.

This live stream from 250 miles above Earth is going to show off Amazon Web Services’ Elemental encoding software onboard the ISS and on the ground at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston. Amazon’s CloudFront Content Delivery Network is going to power the live streaming access in both 4K and HD.
