The Raspberry Pi boards are great if you like to tinker around with technology. The possibilities are endless with the board but it’s obviously limited by its specs. If you’re looking for a more powerful solution, one that can even run around, then look no further than Huawei’s new HiKey 960 computer board. The company has collaborated with Google on this board.
Huawei teamed up with the likes of Google, ARM, Archermind, and LeMaker to develop the HiKey 960. The board has been developed to be a solution for Android or to be used as a tool for developing software and drivers for the operating system.
This board can be used in a wide variety of applications such as drones, robots, and smart connected devices. However, it’s primarily meant to function as an Android PC or as a tool that developers use to code and test apps. The board packs a Huawei Kirin 960 processor with 3GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 32GB of storage.
The Mali-G71 graphics processor supports 4K graphics but the board only has a HDMI 1.2a slot that’s good for 1080p display output. Additional specifications include Bluetooth 4.1, 802.11 b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi, a PCIe m.2 slot for expansion.
Huawei is going to start shipping the $239 HiKey 960 computer board in the United States, Europe, and Japan early next month. Support for multiple Linux versions will be added at some point in the future.
