Board game Go world champion and legend Lee Sedol was defeated by AlphaGo, Google DeepMind’s artificial intelligence, in a 4-1 five-game series last year and it’s going to take up the game once again to go on another best player of this game. Je Je is now considered the greatest Go player in the world and he’s AlphaGo’s next opponent.
The 19-year-old Chinese is now ranked number 1 worldwide so it’s going to be equally as shocking, if not more, should AlphaGo manage to win against him as well.
Jie has made a name for himself in the Go scene. He has been playing professionally since he was 10 and has even beaten Sedol on multiple occasions in the past. He actually won three finals against Sedol in the last three months leading up to the latter’s match with the AI software.
It’s now on Jie’s shoulders to win the contest for the sake of humankind. He’s going to go against AlphaGo in a three-game match at the Future of Go Summit in Wuzhen, China. Another game will take place in which five of China’s top Go players will try and beat AlphaGo.
The Future of Go Summit has been made possible due to a partnership between the China Go Association, Google, and the country’s government. It’s going to take place from May 23rd to May 27th.
