Websites and services designed for the web versus desktop tend to look different. This is because on mobile there are things to consider like loading speed, bandwidth, and screen real estate. This is why sometimes some online services have a different look to them compared to their desktop counterpart.
This is true of Google’s sign-in UI where the web version is different from the mobile version, but it seems that will change soon because in a post on Google’s support page (via 9to5Google), the company has revealed that they will be making some changes to its web sign-in UI to make it look more like its mobile counterpart.
According to Google, this will result in a “cleaner, simpler look”, “Make the sign-in process faster”, and ”Be consistent across computers, phones, and tablets.” This move by Google shouldn’t be surprising as the company has openly stated before that they believe mobile is the future, and that they will be making mobile more of a priority.
That being said these changes are expected to begin rolling out to users over the course of the next few weeks, so if one day you find yourself having to log into your Google account on the web and the UI looks different, don’t freak out.
