In an interview with Forbes, GameStop’s senior director of merchandising Eric Bright revealed that the Switch is exceeding GameStop’s own expectations. Bright also went on to claim that the console was selling out at retailers in a matter of hours and not days, and that they expect the momentum to continue for a while.
According to Bright, “It’s exceeding our expectations. We knew it would be a high demand product, but our Switch allocations are selling out not in days, but in hours…the demand is so high that consumers have to react quickly to be able to get their hands on them. Right now we’re not seeing sales going down at all, and I would expect that to continue for quite some time.”
Nintendo has recently confirmed that they have managed to sell 2.74 million units to date, and that the company is anticipating that they’ll be able to sell an additional 10 million within the console’s first year. Given that there are upcoming games like Super Smash Bros. and Super Mario Odyssey that could boost sales, and let’s not forget the holiday season, we wouldn’t be surprised if they did meet their target.
