Future Versions Of uTorrent Will Eventually Run In Your Browser

When it comes to downloading torrents, there are several torrent clients around although uTorrent is probably one of the most popular clients at the moment. The app has been around for quite a while now and in a report from TorrentFreak, it seems that its developer and BitTorrent creator Bram Cohen plans to eventually move uTorrent to the web.

Speaking to TorrentFreak during the website’s Steal This Show podcast, Cohen talked about the recent rough times that BitTorrent Inc. had experienced and are coming out of, and how things are calming down which is giving the company the time they need to get back on track. One of those things that they will be addressing would be its torrent client.

According to Cohen, “The plan is to consolidate the business and focus on revenues. We have actually a fair amount of expertise in client application advertising, which is kind of a pain to do. So leverage that and bring that to other applications as well. We’re also taking the opportunity here to actually clean up our client experience. So, from a product standpoint, the new revision of uTorrent is going to run in the user’s default browser. That’s just a nicer experience.”

We’re not sure if the desktop client will continue to be made available or if it will be a web-only application moving forward, but if you do use uTorrent then this could be something to keep an eye out for.
