However it looks like Uber has finally made peace with the authorities because according to a report from Reuters, Uber has managed to obtain the necessary permits from the California DMV which should allow them to resume their services and tests on the streets, which is good news since more cars on the road means better results and it should help the self-driving technology along.
Uber’s self-driving efforts aren’t new and the company joins a long list of other companies, such as Alphabet’s Waymo in testing the technology. Recently it was also reported that San Francisco would be testing out self-driving buses but unlike Uber or Waymo’s efforts, this would be a level 5 autonomous vehicle meaning that there would be no human interaction and no steering wheel.
It is hard to say when self-driving technology would reach the stage where it will be reliable enough to become more mainstream, but this definitely helps with that.
