As Twitch mentions on its blog, just because you can doesn’t mean you should, since it would also largely depend on your computer and your internet, because if it can’t handle those settings then there’s really no point in doing so. After all no one likes tuning into a stream if it keeps buffering, right?
“Remember: with great power comes great responsibility. Just because you can stream at 1080p and higher bitrates doesn’t necessarily mean you should. It’s better to have a stable stream at a lower resolution or bitrate than a higher quality stream that makes you drop frames.” To help achieve these settings, Twitch has also increased their ingest bitrate.
According to Twitch, “For starters, we’re no longer limiting our ingest bitrate to 3.5 megabits. We officially recommend 3–6 megabits for most streams, skewing toward the higher end for 1080p broadcasts or faster, more demanding games.”
