Twitch started out as a platform where gamers could go if they wanted to live stream their gaming sessions, or for viewers if they wanted to watch someone else play. Over time, Twitch started to add more social features, although with its latest offering it’s starting to look like Twitch could be transitioning into a full-blown social network for gamers.
The company has recently announced a new feature called “Pulse”. According to Twitch, “Introducing Pulse. A place where streamers can post and engage with all of their followers and the greater Twitch community right from the Twitch front page. It’s an always-on way to share clips, stream highlights, schedules, photos, and more so followers are more informed, engaged, and connected.” As Twitch puts it, you may never leave its website again following the launch of the new feature.
That being said Pulse seems to be some kind of blend between Facebook and YouTube Gaming. Twitch writes, “Our goal is to connect viewers with the content that they’re most likely interested in. Going forward, we will be working to determine the best way of surfacing posts to do just that.”
It is an interesting feature and for gamers logging into Twitch today, there is a good chance that you should already be able to see the changes. However if you don’t not to worry as this appears to be a staged rollout and it should be applied to all users in the coming weeks. In the meantime you can check out the video above to get an idea of what Pulse is.
