Whether or not Apple will go through with that remains to be seen, but a new report from DigiTimes is claiming that Touch ID will be here to stay. According to the report, it seems that Apple will be using an in-house developed fingerprint ID solution that will rely on ultrasound to detect the user’s fingerprints, which presumably will be hidden under the display as Apple has also been rumored to ditch the home button.
In fact we have seen similar patents filed by Apple in the past, so perhaps one of them might be coming true. This isn’t the first time that we have heard rumors of an ultrasound fingerprint sensor. Qualcomm has actually created something similar of their own called Sense ID so it’s not really a stretch to think that Apple could be thinking of something of their own.
In any case DigiTimes has a pretty mixed track record when it comes to Apple-related rumors, so perhaps it’s best to take it with a grain of salt for now, but how would you guys feel if Touch ID were to be replaced? Would you miss it?
