I don’t know about you guys, but I’ve felt that characters such as Venom or Carnage or any of the symbiotes from the Marvel universe would have made pretty awesome movies. However the closest we got was Venom who appeared in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3, although we have to admit that it didn’t feel quite as intimidating like the comics.
The good news is that Sony just announced that they will be releasing a standalone Venom movie come October 5, 2018. This is according to a tweet by Exhibitor Relations and we’re definitely not alone in expressing our surprise. There hasn’t been much said about a possible standalone Venom movie, so we have to say that this announcement is certainly a surprising one.
Watch out, Spider-man. VENOM is now part of the release calendar web as Sony has slated the Spidey spinoff for October 5, 2018.

We know that Sony has been trying to make a Venom movie for years, but nothing has materialized until today. We’re not sure how this will tie in with Spider-Man: Homecoming that seems to be a joint effort between Sony and Marvel, and given that this announcement came from Sony, it doesn’t seem like Marvel could be involved, but maybe more details will surface at a later date.
Unfortunately at the moment there is no mention as to who will be directing the movie, who will be writing the script, or who might be cast in the role of Venom, so we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for more information.
