Snap, the company behind Snapchat, launched its first hardware product a couple of months ago. The Spectacles are basically a pair of sunglasses that make it easier to capture snaps that you can then send out as and when required. A report published earlier today suggested that the company had considered making a drone at one point in time. There’s now a new report which suggests that the company is also thinking about making a 360 degree camera much like the Samsung Gear 360.
Citing three sources familiar with the matter, TechCrunch reports that Snap is exploring the possibility of making a 360 degree camera as a future product. It reportedly brought in a camera developer with experience in 360 degree and stereoscopic cameras to pitch it potential hardware options.
Snap’s interest in 360 degree cameras is still said to be in early stages and the sources cited in the report can’t confirm whether or not it will go through with this plan. The company’s other hardware plans appear to be a mounted action camera not unlike a GoPro as well as a stereoscopic camera that can take 3D images.
Snap may also come out with an updated version of the Spectacles at some point in the future. It’s pertinent to mention here that none of this has been confirmed by the company as yet so nothing is set in stone.
