That strategy appears to be ongoing and Microsoft’s latest effort comes in the form of the Samsung Galaxy S8 Microsoft Edition. Basically this is the Samsung Galaxy S8 except that it will come with certain Microsoft customizations and apps that will not be available on the “regular” Galaxy S8 handsets.
Note that the Galaxy S8 and S8+ will come with Microsoft’s basic apps, like their Office suite of productivity apps as per their partnership from a couple of years ago. However the Microsoft Edition will come with additional Microsoft apps, such as Cortana, OneDrive, Outlook, Skype, MSN News, and more.
In a statement Microsoft provided to The Verge, it reads, “A Microsoft customization is applied to the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ Microsoft Edition when the devices are unboxed and connected to Wi-Fi. This customization ensures customers a best-in-class productivity experience with Microsoft applications such as Office, OneDrive, Cortana, Outlook and more.” The Samsung Galaxy S8 Microsoft Edition will be available for pre-orders now and can be purchased on the 21st of April at Microsoft Stores in the US.
