Razer has been testing its digital wallet and currency system called zVault since January and today the company has announced its official launch. zVault will enable users to pay for digital content such as DLCs and full games while it’s also going to function as a rewards system which enables users to win free products from Razer. The currency is divided into two components with zGold being the digital currency that users can buy and zSilver being the rewards currency.
Using zVault is quite simple. Sign up for an account on Razer’s website and deposit some money to create a zGold balance. zVault deposits can be made in $30, $50, and $100 increments. This money can be spent on the Razer store for products like mice, gaming headsets, keyboards or on web stores that Razer has partnered with.
These include IndieGala and Gamersgate which let users purchase codes using zVault that can them be redeemed on Steam. Players will be able to spend zGold on in-game items as well, supported game developers include Hi-Rez Studios, Smilegate West, and Trion Worlds.
zSilver is a rewards currency which is awarded when users meet a condition, this may include spending zGold and logging into Razer’s Arena gaming service daily. These rewards points can then be used to buy promoted products in the Razer store. The value of these points won’t always be 1:1 but Razer does say that early promotions provide 20,000 zSilver for a $20 discount on select items.
Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan says that the zVault is more than a club or credit card perks program. “Our ultimate vision is a complete gamer economy expanding from the zVault ecosystem. It’s social, interactive and truly useful, opening the doors to a safer way of doing business and an expansive rewards market for our fans,” he adds.
