Blizzard Announces New Overwatch Hero ‘Orisa’

After a couple of weeks of teasing, Blizzard has officially announced the latest hero to be added to the game’s roster in the form of “Orisa”. We know that many of you guys had assumed that it would be Efi Oladele since her name was mentioned quite a bit by Blizzard, but it turns out it isn’t Efi, or at least not directly.

Instead Blizzard has announced a new hero in the form of Orisa which is actually a robot that was repurposed by Efi, so while you won’t actually be controlling Efi, she is linked with Orisa to a certain extent. According to Blizzard, “Built from the scraps of the city’s decommissioned OR15 defense bots, Orisa is still learning how to optimally perform her function. What she lacks in experience, she makes up for in her steadfast dedication to keeping her city—and her creator—safe from harm.”

From what we can tell it seems that Blizzard has created Orisa as a tank-like character, meaning that it has been designed to protect its teammates from damage, such as damage dealers and healers. She also has a barrier ability that Blizzard says is similar to Reinhardt’s, but maybe not quite as durable.

For gamers who are interested in taking the character for a spin, Orisa is currently playable in the Public Test Realm. We’re not sure when Blizzard plans to put the hero into the rotation for everyone else, but it hopefully gamers won’t have to wait too long. In the meantime you can check out the video above for an introduction to the character.
