When StarCraft Remastered was announced last week, it was also revealed by Blizzard that they planned to issue a patch for the original StarCraft that would make it a free game. Note that this isn’t a free-to-play game with in-app purchases, but a game that is completely free from start to end.
Given that the original StarCraft is close to two decades old, there might not necessarily be a rush to get the game, but in case you’re interested it looks like the game is already free and available for download. To be fair the original StarCraft did play a big role in RTS games being a competitive genre in the eSports scene, so if you’re wondering what all the fuss is about, you can check it out if you are interested via the StarCraft forums.
In the meantime for those hearing about StarCraft Remastered for the first time, this will essentially be the original StarCraft game that some of you guys might be familiar with, except that it will be given a graphics overhaul to make it look more modern, at least by today’s standards. It will also come with support for Blizzard’s online services and what not.
Players who are playing the free version of the game have the option to upgrade to the Remastered copy for when it releases this summer, and their progression will be carried forwards.
