The Nintendo Switch was officially released several days ago on the 3rd of March. The Switch represents another chance for Nintendo to compete in the console industry especially after the Wii U, which many had considered to be something of a flop. That being said it seems that Nintendo might not have anything to worry about.

According to a report from Gamesindustry.biz, it seems that over in the UK, retailers are claiming to have sold 80,000 units of the console during its opening weekend. To give you guys some perspective, this is double that of the Wii U which apparently only managed 40,000 units during its opening weekend back in late 2013.

However this still pales in comparison to other consoles such as the 3DS which managed 113,000 units at launch, or the PS4 or Xbox One which managed to sell 250,000 units and 150,000 units respectively. However like we said compared to that of the Wii U, it seems that the Switch is chugging along just fine.

It is probably still too early to tell how well the console will do, especially since quite a lot of the major titles aren’t available on it yet, save for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and we’re sure that there are many gamers who are holding out until more games are available.
