Nest is finally providing its users with an extra layer of security for their accounts. Since the company makes smart connected devices that control various aspects of your home it’s certainly very important for your Nest accounts to remain safe at all times. So finally, Nest has decided to add two-factor authentication to accounts. This layer of security has already been widely available for email and social network accounts.
Two-factor authentication is a simple layer of security but it’s also very effective. Even if someone is able to figure out the password to your account they would still require physical access to your phone in order to get into your account.
The first time users sign into their Nest Account after enabling two-factor authentication they will have to type their email and password but also enter the code they receive via text. Two-factor authentication can be enabled for Nest Accounts by tapping on the menu icon in the Nest app, heading to Account Security, and activating the “2-step verification” option. Once it’s enabled, users need to sign in again.
This layer of security will then protect the Nest Account against malicious attempts to gain access. As previously mentioned, simply figuring out the password won’t be enough for an attacker who wishes to gain access, they would require access to your phone and extraordinary circumstances aside, that’s not something which will be possible for them to do.
