More traditional watchmakers are moving into the smartwatch game. As we gear up to see Tag Heuer’s second-generation Android Wear smartwatch, Movado today confirmed its partnership with Google to launch Movado Connect which is a new smartwatch collection that will run on Android Wear 2.0. The company says that this collection is one of the first that’s designed specifically for Android Wear 2.0.
Movado has confirmed today that the Movado Connect collection is going to be launched in the fall of this year. The collection will consist of five men’s styles with a starting price of $495. It will be available in the United States, Canada, UK, and the Caribbean. Movado is going to unveil the collection at Baselworld 2017.
“The launch of Movado Connect marks another new milestone in Movado’s longstanding history of creativity and innovation in watch design,” said Efraim Grinberg, Chairman & CEO, Movado Group. He mentions that the new smartwatches will be “iconically Movado” as they will feature the company’s proprietary edge-to-edge crystal design.
The Movado Connect collection features five unique customizable dials that have been designed and inspired by Movado’s museum dial. Each dial design also features 3-4 customizable elements as well as features like backgrounds, complications, and watch hands so that users can create whatever look they desire. Since they will be running on Android Wear 2.0 the smartwatches will have access to a plethora of apps including Android Pay and Google Assistant.
“We are thrilled to partner with Movado, a longtime leader and one of the most iconic brands in the watch industry,” said David Singleton, Vice President of Android Engineering at Google. Two other brands in the Movado Group portfolio – Hugo Boss and Tommy Hilfiger – are also teaming up with Google to launch their own Android Wear 2.0 collections later this year.
