Quite a lot of customers tend to purchase the AppleCare+ insurance program from the company to ensure that their products are covered should something go wrong. iPhone customers will be particularly happy to find out that the company has quietly updated its AppleCare+ iPhone insurance program. The company has decided to extend the purchase window for iPhones from 60 days to one year. What this means is that iPhone owners can now sign up for this program up to one year after they’ve actually purchased the handset.
MacRumors first reported that the change has been made to the company’s AppleCare+ program. Customers who purchased a new iPhone within the last year can now confirm that they are eligible to sign up for a program by simply opening up Apple’s eligibility tool and punching in the serial number of their iPhone which can easily be obtained from the handset’s settings menu.
Apple hasn’t taken a completely unusual step here. The purchase window for Macs and the Apple TV is already at one year so it’s good that the company has decided to extend the eligibility window for the iPhone as well. All customers will be eligible to purchase a plan as long as they bought their new iPhone within the last year.
Even though there’s a cost, there are obvious benefits to having smartphone insurance. For example, Apple only charges $29 for a screen repair on an iPhone that’s protected under the AppleCare+ plan.
That’s a pretty good deal considering that third-party repairs can cost more than that and the job may not always be done properly.
