Basically it was discovered that with Google Assistant baked into the app, sometimes what happens is that Google Assistant might respond with answers that are completely unrelated to what’s being discussed at the moment, or some reason it might decide to answer an earlier question, which in turn could accidentally reveal a search query that maybe you didn’t want anyone to see.
This is clearly a huge privacy breach because like we said, sometimes there are some things we don’t want other people to know we search for. Thankfully this appears to be a glitch/bug because Google has since responded to Recode’s report and said, “We were notified about the Assistant in group chats not working as intended. We’ve fixed the issue and appreciate the report.”
This means that the problem should have been fixed, but just to be safe, maybe you’ll want to keep an eye out on Google Assistant’s behavior for the time-being, at least until you feel comfortable enough to let it run free.
