Daimler To Recall 1 Million Mercedes Cars Due To Risk Of Fire

If you have bought a new Mercedes-Benz in recent times, then you might want to pay attention to this because it seems that due to the risk of fire, Daimler AG has announced that they will be recalling as many as 1 million newer-model Mercedes-Benz vehicles around the world, according to a report from Reuters.

It seems that so far there have been at least 51 reported cases of newer-model Mercedes-Benz cars catching on fire, but thankfully there have not been any injuries or death as a result of that, but we guess they probably shouldn’t wait until then to take action anyway. Apparently this is due to a faulty fuse, and it seems that a fix has already been implemented in the production of the models that are coming off the assembly line, so those vehicles should not pose a problem.

A Mercedes-Benz spokesman told Reuters, “Any affected vehicles in inventory will not be sold until they can be outfitted with the additional fuse.” It is unclear as to what the global breakdown will be, but it seems at 307,629 of the recalled vehicles will be coming from the US alone, with 30 of the 51 reported cases also coming from the US.

For customers who are wondering if their vehicles are part of Daimler’s recall efforts, you can check the VIN number on its website (US-only), but the company is expected to get in touch with affected customers anyway.
