Over the past few weeks, we’ve seen some of the country’s biggest mobile networks make changes to their unlimited data plans. Verizon decided to offer one after several years and T-Mobile improved its plan in response. Some days later, AT&T came out with its own plan. Now, a prepaid carrier by the name of Cricket Wireless is doing something similar. It has cut the price of its unlimited data plan and is even offering a free handset to those who switch over from another carrier.
Cricket Wireless has confirmed that it has reduced the price of its unlimited data plan by $10. The Cricket unlimited data plan now costs $60 per month. Subscribers can get an additional $10 discount when they add a second line, the discount goes up to $20 with the third line. A family of four can bag a $30 discount and pay $180 per month for cellular service.
The plan includes unlimited data, free calls from the United States to Mexico, Canada, and 38 additional countries aside from texting. Like other carriers, Cricket is also imposing a 22GB limit on the unlimited data plan after which it’s going to throttle users when there’s too much traffic on the network.
Some new features are being added as well which include HD and Wi-Fi Calling. A Stream mode will be offered which will enable subscribers to watch videos at 480p resolution to cut down on their data usage. These features go live on April 2nd.
Customers who switch to Cricket can pick up a handset for free, choices include the Galaxy Amp 2 by Samsung, the LG Spree, ZTE Sonata, and Alcatel Streak.
