It has been a while since Nest came out with some new products and if a new report is to be believed, that streak is likely going to end this year. The report claims that Nest, which is now owned by Google’s parent company Alphabet, is working on a couple of new connected devices that include a cheaper thermostat, a new home security system, an improved version of the Nest Cam, and a smart doorbell.
Bloomberg’s report reiterates rumors that have been going around since last May that Nest is developing a home security system. The scribe says that Nest’s system might consist of alarm sensors for doors and windows, a central keypad hub as well as a key fob for easy activation and deactivation of the entire system. Much like other Nest products the home security system would be controllable using a smartphone app.
Another new product that Nest is said to be working on is the smart doorbell. It may have a camera which lets users see who is outside and even communicate with them using an app on their smartphone. However, while Nest is expected to release its home security system this year, the smart doorbell isn’t expected to arrive until next year.
The scribe also claims that the new Nest thermostat is going to cost below $200 which would be a big discount compared to the current $250 price tag. Nest is reportedly developing new sensors that hook up with the thermostat for smart temperature control that varies for each room.
Nest has not commented on this as yet and it’s unclear at this point in time when these rumored products are going to be officially launched.
