At the moment Blizzard’s Overwatch is available for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and while there are no plans to bring it onto the Mac, the question is will it arrive on other newer consoles, like the Nintendo Switch? This was a question that was posed to Overwatch’s director Jeff Kaplan during a recent Reddit AMA.
According to Kaplan, “I’m loving the Switch! My second favorite gaming platform of all time is the 3DS. Getting OW on the Switch is very challenging for us. But we’re always open minded about exploring possible platforms.” Kaplan’s answer can be seen as good or bad news depending on how you want to look at it.
On one hand it sounds like Blizzard isn’t entirely closed off to the idea of bringing Overwatch onto the Switch, but as Kaplan notes, getting the game running on the console is apparently “challenging”. Usually what this means is that if Blizzard can’t get the game to run properly, then that’s pretty much the end of that.
It’s hard to say if or when we will ever get a definite answer or a sign that Overwatch is coming onto the Switch, so maybe gamers shouldn’t hold their breaths just yet, but know that the door isn’t completely shut.
