Have you ever had to check some personal information on your phone in a public place and worried about something snooping in by simply looking over your shoulder? This can happen when you’re in line at the bank or in a packed train. BlackBerry has come up with a solution to this problem. It’s an app that the company is called Privacy Shade.
BlackBerry says that the app will enable you to read emails, messages, and other personal content without having to worry about onlookers. It lets users obscure parts of the screen that they’re not actively using or viewing while still letting them interact with the obscured parts.
The transparency of the filter that this app applies can be adjusted. Its core feature can be quickly accessed from the Quick Settings menu if you’re using Android 7.0 Nougat or higher.
Those who own a BlackBerry device running Android can also assign this feature to the hardware Convenience key. Those who own a BB device which supports Swipe shortcuts can make BlackBerry Privacy Shade one of their shortcuts.
The only caveat here is that BlackBerry has only released the Privacy Shade app for its own Android-powered devices. If you don’t have a BB-branded Android device you can’t use this app.
BlackBerry Privacy Shade app is now available as a free download from the Google Play Store.
