In a statement made to TechCrunch (via MacRumors), Apple has since claimed that many of the vulnerabilities detailed in Vault 7 had already been patched. This means that anyone combing through that list will probably not be able to break into Apple’s iPhones, unless of course they discover some new security flaw or exploit that Apple has yet to address.
According to an Apple spokesperson, “While our initial analysis indicates that many of the issues leaked today were already patched in the latest iOS, we will continue work to rapidly address any identified vulnerabilities. We always urge customers to download the latest iOS to make sure they have the most recent security updates.”
Apart from Apple, the documents also revealed that the CIA could also bypass things like WhatsApp’s encryption, signal encryption, and that there were also exploits designed for Google’s Android platform, although Google has yet to comment on them. In any case as far as iPhone users are concerned, while it is troubling that the CIA has all these exploits stored, it appears that you guys are safe, for now.
