If there is one aspect of Android that is better than iOS, it would be custom ringtones in which while a bit tricky, is still many times easier than creating custom ringtones for iOS devices. We’re not sure if Apple plans on easing this up anytime soon, although we guess for the most part users have made peace with that, but for Android users, things are about to get easier.
In a report from Android Police, they have noticed that in the recently announced Android O, Google has made it so that adding a custom ringtone is easier than before. As you can see in the screenshot above, the one to the left would be the ringtone selection for Nougat, while the one on the right is the ringtone selection for Android O, in which there is now an option to “Add ringtone”.
Clicking that option will open up the file picker where users will be able to select any sound file that they want, which means that users can choose from songs or maybe specially downloaded audio clips that they want to use as their ringtone. We guess this is more of a minor feature, but it is one of those quality of life improvements that will make the overall experience better.
As it stands Android O is available for download as a developer preview. No word on when the final build will be released, but given Nougat’s release in 2016, we suppose Android users will have quite a bit of waiting to do.
