It has been a while since the creator of Android Andy Rubin left his role at Google. We later found out that he was working on a new smartphone. Rubin hasn’t shared much about the upcoming device so far but today he has tweeted an image of the mysterious smartphone which hints that it’s going to be nearly bezel-less.
Rubin hasn’t revealed the entire device, mind you, he has just shared a teaser of the device which shows only a corner. There’s tiny white text there which mentions the battery, time, and network information as you would expect.
No further details have been revealed at this point in time so it’s unclear what the technical specifications are, what features the handset might have that will set it apart from the competition, and what its unique selling points are going to be.
The handset is being made by Rubin’s new company that’s called Essential Products Inc. The company will be creating new smartphones, tablets, and mobile software. Previous reports suggest that the company is also going to come out with a range of connected products eventually.
We’ll have to wait for more information to surface about this smartphone. Rubin hasn’t said when that’s going to happen but it’s expected that the first smartphone made by Essential is going to be launched by mid-2017.
I'm really excited about how this is shaping up. Eager to get it in more people's hands… pic.twitter.com/LRzQCFSKTm
