However instead of an app, the report claims that Amazon is actually considering creating a physical furniture store for items that customers might not necessarily be inclined to buy online. This store could take advantage of technology such as AR or VR to help customers envision what the furniture could look like in their homes.
Assuming this is the case, this would definitely not be the first brick and mortar store that Amazon has setup. Prior to this, the company had opened a physical bookstore, and recently the company launched Amazon Go, a new grocery store concept where you can just take what you want and walk out the door, with scanners and sensors detecting your purchases that will later be charged to you.
So what this means is that Amazon is no stranger when trying to shake up the traditional retail concept. However whether or not this AR furniture store will actually become a thing remains to be seen, so until then take it with a grain of salt.
