As you might have heard and seen by now, WhatsApp has decided to take its status updates to the next level by introducing “Stories”, a feature popularized by Snapchat, but was later copied onto Instagram and Facebook before arriving on the messaging platform. However in the process, regular text status updates were gone.
Now before this maybe not many people bothered with these updates, but they did have some use as it let people know if someone was busy, free to talk, driving, in a meeting, and so on. But with the new Stories update, text statuses have been replaced which is a bit odd, but the good news is that they could be coming back soon.

In a recent post by @WABetaInfo, they have revealed that the text status feature was spotted in a recent beta for WhatsApp on iOS and Android. There does not appear to be anything new that we didn’t already know, so basically WhatsApp is bringing back a feature that they removed, which is rather strange since they could have easily just kept it in in the first place, right?
Anyway there’s no timing on when this feature will be brought back into WhatsApp, but hopefully it’ll come in the next update so we’ll keep our eyes peeled. In the meantime does anyone else miss these text status updates? Or are the new Stories infinitely better?
