We had heard earlier this month that Tesla was getting its factory ready for production, so we guess it makes sense that production will be beginning soon. So far pre-orders for the Model 3 have been pretty good as apparently the Model 3 is sold out at least until mid-2018, so if you failed to make a pre-order then chances are you’ll have to wait quite a bit in order to get your hands on it.
Unsurprisingly this has probably got to do with the price of the vehicle. Tesla’s electric cars haven’t exactly been cheap, but the Model 3 will be the company’s first mass-market electric vehicle which is retailing for about $30,000 after the federal incentives are taken into account. This is compared to the likes of the Model X which costs more than $60,000.
Tesla’s earnings report also revealed that the company is doing better than expected. The original estimates for revenue in that quarter was $2.201 billion, but Tesla managed to pull in $2.284 billion. Full year revenue was also up by 73% over 2015 at $7 billion.
