Google today announced a new feature for Google Maps which makes its mapping service a bit social. Lists in Google Maps enables users on Android and iOS to easily create lists of their favorite places and then share them with friends and family. The lists can also be viewed using Google Maps for desktop and can be edited via the web as well. The lists are also available in offline maps.

This feature was previously limited to Google Maps Local Guides who could create lists of their favorite places in their city as a guide to other looking for places to go. Google has now decided to offer this feature to all Google Maps users. It has also added the option to share lists as well as follow lists created by other users.

The lists feature is now live in the latest version of the Google Maps app for iOS and Android. It can be accessed by launching the app, finding the place that you’re interested in, tapping on it and then the Save icon to either choose from pre-set lists or create one yourself. All lists created by you will be stored in the Your Places section.

They can then be shared via social networks, email, text, and messaging apps. If you receive such a link you can choose to follow the list inside the app. If you download offline maps of an area, all of the places that you’ve added to the list in that particular area will be available as well.
