However that could change in the future as Intel has recently unveiled their new 7560 Baseband Processor, which according to Sacha Sagan of PC Mag (via AppleInsider), could be a frontrunner for Apple’s future iPhones. According to Sagan, this is because Intel’s new modem “is LTE Category 16/13, with download speeds of 1Gbps and upload speeds of 225Mbps. It supports up to 8×4 MIMO, up to 35 LTE bands, and all of the current evolutions of LTE, GSM, and CDMA.”
Of course it’s hard to say if Apple will make the switch, but if you might recall Qualcomm is currently going through something of a legal crisis. The company is currently being sued by the FTC and recently Apple themselves have filed a lawsuit against them alleging extortion. However then again Apple has in the past worked with companies that they have sued, such as Samsung, so who’s to say?
In any case this is just speculation for now so take it with a grain of salt, and we’ll just have to wait and see what this year’s iPhone teardown reveals to see if Apple has indeed made the switch.
