Microsoft continues to bring some great Xbox 360 games to the Xbox One through backwards compatibility. It confirmed last week that Grand Theft Auto 4 was now backwards compatible with the Xbox One. However, it’s not uncommon for these titles to experience technical issues on the current-generation console and while not much can be done about them, Microsoft has confirmed that it’s looking into the GTA 4 Xbox one frame-pacing issues.
When Microsoft announced that Grand Theft Auto 4 is now backwards compatible with the Xbox One, it did say that the title offers enhanced performance on the current-generation console. However, reports suggest that the title suffers from frame-pacing issues which actually results in a worse gameplay experience. Players have been suggested to lock the frame-rate to 30 frames per second as a temporary solution.
It’s not that simple, though, as Microsoft engineer Bill Stillwell explained on Twitter. He confirmed that the company is aware of the frame-pacing issues and that it’s working inside the limitations of the game’s engine to address them.
We’ve seen backwards compatible games receives fixes after being made compatible for the Xbox One so this is nothing new. Titles like Halo: Reach and Mass Effect are just some of the titles that received fixes after they got backwards compatibility support for the Xbox One. Hopefully, Microsoft is going to address these GTA 4 frame-pacing issues soon and provide a better gameplay experience to those who want to play this title on an Xbox One.
We can't just "lock" an unlocked engine to 30 fps. Bound by the legacy. But we know of the frame pacing issues and are looking at it now.
