If there is a reason why there is a flourishing market for budget and mid-range handsets is because not everyone can justify paying so much money for a smartphone. However if you’re a big believer in how flagships are more worth it, you might want to start saving because according to rumors out of China, the Samsung Galaxy S8 will be more expensive.
A tweet by @mmmddj_china has revealed that the Samsung Galaxy S8 is expected to cost 6,088 RMB in China. This is versus the 4,888 RMB that it cost for the Samsung Galaxy S7. After conversion this is roughly $885 for the Galaxy S8 while the Galaxy S7 costs $710. This is almost a $200 price difference.
The pricing might and probably will be different in the US, but if there is a price hike in China chances are we’ll see similar pricing changes made to the rest of the world too. Will this affect the demand for the phone? Maybe, but if you might recall, Samsung is offering Note 7 owners a 50% discount on the Galaxy S8, so that’s not too bad.
We’ve also heard about Samsung might not be alone in increasing their prices. Word on the street has it that Apple’s iPhone this year could cost upwards of $1,000.
