According to Samsung’s explanation as to what went wrong with the Galaxy Note 7, it seemed that both of Samsung’s battery manufacturers had run into separate manufacturing issues which is why despite swapping suppliers, the problem continued to persist. This is why it doesn’t really come as a surprise to learn that maybe Samsung could be going with new suppliers.

Based on the latest rumors, Samsung is said to be looking towards Japan for their battery needs. The report claims that Samsung will apparently be sourcing the batteries for the Galaxy S8 from Murata Manufacturing, who for those unfamiliar is one of Apple’s suppliers. Like we said given the Note 7 incident, it isn’t surprising that Samsung is looking elsewhere for their battery needs.

In fact according to a recent rumor, word has it that Samsung will be increasing the battery size of the Galaxy S8 to 3,250mAh for the regular model and 3,750mAh for the “Plus” model. Whether or not this is true remains to be seen. In the meantime Samsung has also outlined a new 8-step safety checking procedure for its batteries to ensure that what happened with the Note 7 will not happen again, at least not as far as their end is concerned.
