According to the report, it seems that one of Apple’s suppliers TPK might stop producing touch panels for the Apple Watch. Apparently the company has been struggling to produce enough of these components for Apple, which some have speculated to be the reason why there might have been some supply constraint with the Apple Watch.
The report also goes on to add that Apple will also be using a different display technology for the Apple Watch. Instead of a touch on lens panel, Apple could be switching to a glass-film touch solution for the Apple Watch Series 3. It is unclear as to what kind of differences we might be able to expect in terms of responsiveness, thinness, more energy efficient, and so on, but those are one of the rumored changes that Apple will be making.
Assuming Apple does unveil a new Apple Watch this year, chances are we’ll be looking at a Q3 announcement, which was roughly when Apple made the Series 2 announcement last year when they announced it alongside the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus.
