Apple Overtakes Samsung As World’s Top Smartphone Vendor

While Apple and Samsung clearly create phones of different platforms, in the smartphone market both companies view each other as rivals. However it seems that in the latest quarter, Apple might have overtaken Samsung in terms of smartphone shipments, at least that’s according to the numbers from market research firm Strategy Analytics.

According to Strategy Analytics, Apple’s Q4 2016 shipments totalled a whopping 78.3 million devices, where Samsung only managed 77.5 million. This is compared to the same quarter in the previous year where Apple shipped 74.8 million units, while Samsung clearly outpaced Apple at 81.3 million units.

The new numbers also means a change in market share, with Apple now commanding 17.8% of the market while Samsung commands 17.7%, which basically indicates that Apple managed to edge Samsung out by a hair. It is possible that Samsung’s troubles with the Galaxy Note 7 in 2016 probably impacted those numbers, and that had Samsung not run into any issues, it is more than likely that they would have beaten Apple again.

That being said, Apple’s latest financials have revealed that the company managed a whopping $78.4 billion in revenue last quarter despite the fact that some were a bit pessimistic about the company and its iPhones.
